I wanted to submit my personal experience to your page. Entitled Opie - My Baby Horse.
I am a horse person of 35 years. Throughout 33 of it, I had always wanted to have my own newborn baby foal and watch the delivery, but always had older horses.
In March of 97' I was taking a meditation class, learning to clear my head of normal day to day living and stress. One day while driving to work on the freeway, I had a vision pop into my head of the cutest baby horse. He looked much like my young stallion, but had very specific white markings on him. I thought nothing of it but wondered where the "idea" had come from. A few days later, again while driving to work I saw the foal vision in my minds eye again. That night as I drifted to off to sleep I saw the foal again but from a different angel and in my first stall in the barn, laying down and trying to get up. He looked new born and wet.
I went to my instructor the next day and asked him what he thought of these visions that were popping in my head. He had told me it was the spirit of a horse that I had known in my past or that was coming to me in my future stopping by to say hi. He said I was learning to clear my head and enabling myself to connect with more subtle things.
A year went by, and in March of 98' I noticed my older mare had not been cycling. Being concerned since she seem to be getting fatter as I cut down her winter feed, in preparation for show season, I called out my vet. She examined the mare and said she did not feel or see anything out of the normal. So she took a blood test. It came back positive for pregnancy! Now this was rather curious to me as I know I did not breed the mare to the stallion. However, after discussing it with my husband, he remembered a day last fall when the stallion got in with the mare and bred her, and did not tell me, since he thought I would be mad, because it was his fault the stallion got out. Conception rate with horses is about 60% so he didn't think much of it.
We took an ultra sound that March and I got my first glimpse of "Opie." Although you could not see color I could see his perfect little form. I carried the resulting photo around with me. It was a long time to wait 33 years, and now months seemed like forever, not knowing a due date was very testing. It takes a mare between 320-367 days to foal, with 343 being the norm, and we weren't even sure when she was due. Mike couldn't remember if it was July August or September that the stallion got in with the mare. My vet suspected sometime the beginning of September.
Opie arrive on August 26,1998. I was there for the whole birthing. When I
uncovered the birthing sac from his face and body, I was totally surprised as
this the very same foal that came to me in my visions a year and a half
earlier! What was amazing to me was he showed himself to me in my vision 6
months BEFORE he was even conceived, and he turned out exactly as I had
envisioned him my minds eye. The first night he was born I sat in the straw
in the stall with him. He laid his head in my lap and as he went to sleep I
stroked his soft little face and spoke to him of dreams we have to accomplish
together.
